How To Identify Type 2 Diabetes In Adolescents
Type 2 diabetes has become somewhat of an epidemic amongst the general populous and children and young adults are no exception. It is vital to know the signs of diabetes within your children and get them the treatment they require as soon as possible.
Your child may be at risk if they are at the onset of their pubescent years. They should be tested every three years in order to minimise risk.
If their BMI or their age for height is greater than the 85th percentile for their age and gender or their weight is greater than 120% of their ideal weight for height they may be at risk.
One also needs to bear in mind factors of importance such as a family history of type 2 diabetes; if the
child is of Indian descent; or if there is a predominant maternal history of diabetes during the child's gestational growth period.
