Opioid Addiction And How To Combat It: Part One

Opioid abuse is one of the single most devastating epidemics that we are seeing worldwide. The frequency of patients seeking cures to chronic pain has increased rapidly over the years and, consequently, so has the amount of opioid drugs prescribed.

Opioids are incredibly easy to become addicted to or even dependant on due to their availability and rising rates of prescription amongst general practitioners and other medical professionals.

How do you know if you are heading towards an opioid disaster?

Check this list and inform yourself:

  • If you intentionally take more pills than prescribed or for a far longer period of time.

  • If you fail to reduce your pill intake even when you actively try.

  • If obtaining the pills becomes a source of anxiety and you are willing to go to great lengths to do so.

  • If you experience a lack of performance in any of your daily activities such as work or school.

  • If you experience relationship difficulties.

  • If you actively avoid any of your important activities.

  • If you are reckless when taking the substances (eg. Taking them with alcohol).

  • If you find yourself becoming more tolerant to the drug's effects.

  • If you experience withdrawal symptoms when you try to reduce your intake.

If you are struggling with any or all of the above then you need to urgently see a psychiatric professional as you may already be suffering from an opioid addiction
