World Congress of Internal Medicine

The 34th World Congress of Internal Medicine takes place in Cape Town from the 18th – 21st October. The event features renowned medical professionals from across the globe as they cover an array of different topics and fields. It is with great pleasure that we are able announce that several speakers representing CEMMS will be taking part in communicating their knowledge in the fields of bariatric surgery and obesity management. These are the topics Prof and her associates will be addressing:

  • Dr Bart Smet –“Why sleeve gastrectomy is not the new gold standard in bariatric surgery” and “Failed sleeve : what are the options?” 


  • Prof Tess van der Merwe – “The ethics of  obesity management”


  • Dr Gary Fetter – “The pros and cons of bariatric surgical procedures in the management of diabetes”


  • Dr Vernon Ching – “Post bariatric plastic surgery: the team approach”
